This four year apprenticeship has  been structured to get the very best out of you, blending academic study with work based learning.  You will be employed full time, spending 4 days a week in the workplace and 1 day a week at university. You will finish your apprenticeship with a degree in Engineering: Instrumentation, Measurement and Control (IMC) and the knowledge, understanding, skills and competence required to progress into a career in Engineering or Project Management.

Overview of the post and information about the team

The Engine Shed is part of Historic Environment Scotland and it is Scotland’s first building conservation centre. The Technical Outreach and Education Team is looking for an trainee who will have an opportunity to develop skills in project management and content development across a range of technical publications, exhibition and interpretation programmes.
 
This post will be part of a wider cohort of 10 trainees across our Conservation Directorate. Trainees will have the opportunity to gain experience in their chosen field of conservation, increase knowledge of the wider conservation sector, expand their professional network and have access to the Engine Shed learning resources.    

The Content Team is charged with engaging people with conservation through interpretation, exhibitions, technical publications and our web and social media presence. We have a varied workload which includes writing and editing publications and blogs, researching and project managing exhibitions, creating digital content and developing and delivering the marketing strategy for the work of the wider team. We are a busy team who manage multiple projects at a time, but it is always interesting and generally good fun! 

This is an opportunity to develop a range of skills used to disseminate conservation expertise to a range of audiences from the general public to professionals in the building conservation sector. Being based at the Engine Shed, you will have access to a range of different learning opportunities and experiences. This could include:

• Event planning
• Delivering outreach
• CPD opportunities
• Conservation Science
• Digital Documentation

Depending on the successful applicant’s interests, we may also be able to arrange shadowing opportunities or talks with other professionals within Historic Environment Scotland.


Key responsibilities, duties and objectives

This traineeship is fast paced and varied. The main responsibilities include, but are not restricted to:

• Research and development of content for technical publications, exhibitions and digital social media channels.
• Carry out design work for small documents such as posters and leaflets.
• Manage external contractors on the design and print of technical publications and marketing materials.
• Support with marketing of the Engine Shed programme, from development of marketing materials to development of content for digital marketing.
• Support with content administration for the Engine Shed website.

About the role
As an Apprentice Body Repairer, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a range of bodyshop-based tasks. These will include moving and refitting vehicle body panels and trims, carrying our repairs to manufacturer specification, welding and rectifying vehicle body misalignment.

Nordex is a manufacturer of onshore wind turbines in the wind energy sector. We have been successful for over 30 years in an industry with a big future. We are now launching our Modern Apprenticeship program in Engineering.


Our apprenticeship is a comprehensive training program lasting for up to 4 years. Your first year will be based at Forth Valley College, Falkirk campus on a full-time basis working to gaining your SVQ at SCQF level 5 and National Certificate in Engineering. 

You will receive tailored on the job training at our Wind Farms in the Stirling area and at other locations across the UK. There will also be day release for you to continue to pursue your academic studies so that you can achieve HNC and the work based SVQ at SCQF level 6 on the Multi skilled Engineer pathway.

What will I learn?


As part of your on the job training, Nordex will guide you through the electrical and mechanical workings of our turbines. Be able to work as part of our onsite teams and make simple repairs building up to more complex repairs and component exchanges of our turbines. There are planned services and inspections to be carried out along with documentation that needs to be completed on our systems pre and post activities.
