"Working within early learning & childcare truly is a privilege!"

21/2/2022

stirling council's early years officer, lAURA MCcALLUM, TELLS US WHY YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD CONSIDER A ROLE IN EARLY lEARNING & cHILDCARE.

Working within early learning and childcare truly is a privilege! Children are amazing and you can learn as much from them as they do from you.

Having spent 17 years in nurseries I can’t think of a more rewarding and fulfilling career. For me, it wasn’t the first path I took after school and I’m happy to share that, looking back, its OK to do that. If your decisions mean that everything doesn’t fall into place first time, try again or try another route.

Its not a job ‘only for girls’ and it’s not all 'playing with play dough'.
I am thankful that now in my current role, as Stirling Council Early Years Officer, I have been able to work together with DYW Forth Valley to raise awareness of careers in our industry.

The profiles we have presented showcase a variety individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences and aspirations and I think it is evident that it is not a job ‘only for girls’ and it’s not all 'playing with play dough'.
'We are a professional workforce who value the important part we play in children’s lives.'
We encourage everyone who is passionate about supporting children to grow and develop, to consider what a career in Early Learning and Childcare could look like for you. There are a range of roles including support worker, practitioner, senior, manager or leader and various ways to learn.

Take a look at some of the amazing individuals who have contributed to this Profile Pack and be inspired to consider a career in Early Learning and Childcare.
